This project, run by Serco PLC, developed a Security and Resilience architecture which was analysed to identify gaps in the strategy, systems and processes that can diminish its security and resilience capabilities. Frontis were responsible for the development of the MODAF-based framework, liaison with workstreams to produce an analysis of the as-is security and resilience capabilities as well as a generic Framework which can be reused for modelling the security and resilience of other subjects. Using a system of systems approach, the architecture covers the whole lifecycle and includes a risk management module which identifies the components which are at risk and the control systems which mitigate those risks.
Frontis were employed to set up the Enterprise Architecture practice in a large transformation project. This included producing the architecture design strategy and plan including:
• Developing the Architecture Vision including Scope, Stakeholders, Purpose and Concerns;
• Produce the EA framework and model development methodology;
• Design and Implementation of EA Governance – This defines the ownership, review, approval and update roles and responsibilities for each of the views defined in the Framework, and specifies the processes and products required for efficient governance;
• Define the skills and training requirements for the roles in the EA practice;
• Determine the end user requirements for architecture support and architectural outputs and analyses.
Frontis have considerable experience in developing Enterprise Architecture Frameworks which are tailored for the requirements of the client. It is not desirable to use a Framework ‘out of the box’. An architecture is designed to solve a problem, and consequently needs to be created specifically for that job or adapted from one of the common frameworks. You should do this before you even install your EA tool. Many organisations have Enterprise Architectures which serve little or no purpose and do not represent a good return on the investment which has been put into them.
We can work with many of the popular EA Frameworks such as TOGAF, MODAF and NAF, and can configure EA tools including MooD, Mega, Enterprise Architect and Rhapsody.
We have extensive experience in the definition and implementation of architecture frameworks and architecture governance, as well as the creation of architectures. We can provide architects as well as the skills required for managing teams of architects (business, technical, service) ensuring the development of coherent architectures which fulfil the business requirement and answer the ‘so what?’ question. We have defined and implemented Architecture Strategy and lead architecture teams for a number clients including large transformation projects.
